1997-1999. Nippy, emotion-charged halfback showed flashes of brilliance and a rugged competitiveness with Souths. He left the Rabbitohs for the Sea Eagles at the end of 1996. In his two seasons with Manly, the spoiling, improvised style of the little halfback did not impress coach BobFulton who had Test halves Geoff Toovey and Cliff Lyons to choose fromt. In early 1999, Field successfully gained a release from his contract and within the week, guided Balmain to a gutsy win over his old club. |
