Ray Branighan

Winger/Centre 1972-1978

Robust winger/centre who came to Manly from Souths in 1972 and played a major role in the club's first premiership success, partnering the brilliant Bob Fulton in the centres. Branighan scored 15pts in the 1972 grand final (1 try, 6 goals). He toured with Australia's World Cup squad in 1972 and backed up for another premiership win with the Sea Eagles in 1973 before touring with the Kangaroos and playing all five Tests. Branighan played in the 1975 World Series but left Sydney at the end of 1978 after-being a reserve in Manly's courageous win in the grand final replay to take on a two-year contract as captain-coach of Ayr.
