Match Report - Round 7 2003

Walker's boot the difference

www.news.com.au, 27/4/2003

BEN WALKER kicked eight goals from as many attempts as Manly beat South Sydney in atrocious conditions at Brookvale Oval today.

South Sydney scored four tries to Manly's three but Walker's boot proved the difference as the Sea Eagles picked up their third win of the season at their rain-soaked homeground.

The Eagles led 12-4 at halftime and extended that lead only three minutes into the second half when Anthony Watmough scored a try off a Walker pass.

They put the game out of South's reach with five minutes remaining when centre Kevin McGuinness scooped on a Chris Walker fumble and scored a try.

It was an unhappy day for Chris Walker, who went on report for punching in the second half.

Both captains, Bryan Fletcher and Manly's Steve Menzies were sin-binned for dissent by referee Matt Cecchan.
